What Size Microwave Do You Need?
Choose microwave size by measuring dishes, cavity and counter space. Separate capacity in liters from grill function and household size.

Start with the largest dish you use, not household size or liters alone. Two models with the same listed capacity can have different cavity shapes and turntable space.
Three measurements before choosing
- Measure the dish’s length, width and height, including handles and any permitted cover.
- Compare cavity dimensions, turntable size and rotation space, not just plate diameter.
- Measure the appliance location and door-opening space, then follow the exact manual’s ventilation and installation requirements.
Turn your needs into a comparison
| Use | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Individual meal | Your usual plate fits and can rotate |
| Several portions | Container dimensions and acceptable number of batches |
| Dish with handles | Full width and room to insert and remove it |
| Grill cooking | Permitted container and mode in the manual |
Choose capacity around your dishes and preferred batch size. A household that reheats separate plates may need a different arrangement from one using a shared dish.
Capacity and function are separate decisions
The Clikon solo and Toshiba MW3-AG20PE are both listed at 20L, but Toshiba adds a grill. Toshiba describes the MW3-AG20PE as a microwave with grill. The Saudi offer lists Microwave, Grill and Combined modes. Combined pairs microwave and grill; it is not convection.
More watts or liters do not establish a better heating result. Choose the function, then rule out models that cannot accommodate your dishes and location. Read solo versus grill for the function choice, or whether a microwave is worth buying to define the use before the size.

Frequently asked questions
Is 20L enough for one or two people?
It can be a starting point, but it does not guarantee a particular dish fits. Measure your dishes and compare the cavity and turntable.
When do I need 25L or more?
When the larger model has the actual dimensions needed for your dishes or batch. Household size alone cannot decide this.
Does a grill always need more capacity?
Do not infer a minimum capacity from the function. Compare cavity space and permitted cookware in each model manual.
Does wattage establish even heating?
No. A listed power rating is not a measured result for heating evenness or cooking time with your food.
