An air purifier filters room air; a humidifier adds moisture. Those are different jobs. EPA’s humidifier care guidance recommends using a humidifier only when conditions require it, so measure humidity before buying one for a room that merely feels dry.
How we choose

What each machine actually does
An air purifier moves room air through a filter. EPA’s air-cleaner guide explains that portable cleaners can reduce some pollutants, but do not remove every pollutant or replace source control and suitable ventilation. Settled dust still needs cleaning.
A humidifier adds moisture. The AquaOasis is an ultrasonic cool-mist model, which can also disperse minerals or microorganisms from its water. It is not an air cleaner, so adding moisture does not guarantee unchanged or improved particle levels.
So pick the problem, not the machine
Identify pollutant sources and measure humidity before choosing equipment. A purifier will not correct dry air, and a humidifier will not remove airborne dust. If both devices are appropriate, follow their manuals and keep mist from wetting the purifier or its filter.
