Fridge Not Cooling in Summer: Causes and the Fix, in Order

If your fridge struggles during a UAE summer, first check its actual temperature and protect the food. Then inspect the settings, door closure, airflow and installation conditions. Heat can increase cooling demand, but it does not establish that dust is the cause or that the compressor is sound.

Protect the food before waiting for a fix

FDA guidance recommends keeping the refrigerator at 4°C or below and checking it with an appliance thermometer. Move perishable food to working refrigeration or a suitable cooler that maintains safe conditions if this fridge cannot. Do not leave it in a warm appliance for a day or two while trying different settings, and do not judge safety by smell alone.

Check the conditions around the fridge

Compare the kitchen temperature and ventilation gaps with the model’s installation instructions. Keep required vents clear and check for nearby heat sources. There is no single clearance or outdoor-temperature limit that applies to every refrigerator sold in the UAE.

Longer running can occur when a room is warm, food has just been added or doors are opened often. Whirlpool’s guidance also explains that its variable-speed compressors may run for extended periods normally. Running time alone cannot diagnose a fault.

Work through the accessible checks

On a numbered dial, a lower number does not always mean colder. Follow the control instructions and monitor the temperature. GE’s troubleshooting guidance lists several possible causes, but does not rank their frequency in UAE homes.

Should you clean the condenser coil?

Only if your manual identifies it as user-accessible and gives a cleaning method. GE NeverClean condensers are an example that needs no routine coil cleaning under normal conditions. A universal three-to-six-month schedule is therefore inappropriate.

If your model permits cleaning, disconnect power safely and use only the specified method. Do not remove a service cover or push tools near wiring, a fan or refrigerant tubing. The Boao tool in the card is an air-conditioner fin comb and cleaner; it is not established as a suitable soft brush for every refrigerator. Buy an accessory only after checking the actual maintenance task.

Check the seal without jumping to replacement

Look for a trapped package, dirt, a split or distortion. Clean the gasket as the manual allows. A paper-slip test can flag an area to inspect, but cannot by itself distinguish a damaged gasket from alignment or another closure problem.

When to stop and call a technician

Stop if you notice a burning smell, sparks, a hot plug, water near the socket, or repeated breaker trips. Unplug only if the plug and surrounding floor are dry and it is safe to do so. If they are wet, do not touch the plug; isolate the circuit at the electrical panel only if you can reach it without stepping through water. Keep the fridge off until a qualified technician checks it. Do not open electrical covers or the refrigerant circuit.
