A place-setting number is a standardized capacity rating, not a promise about household size or one load per day. Use it to compare models, then check the racks against the plates, glasses, cutlery and cookware you actually wash.
The quick answer
Eight, thirteen and fourteen place settings describe test loads of tableware. A pan, large platter, deep bowl or oversized plate can change how much fits. Meal frequency and loading habits matter too. The 13-place Beko and 14-place Samsung checked here have almost the same external dimensions, so rack flexibility matters more than the one-setting gap.
13 versus 14: verified model comparison
| Checked model | Rated capacity | Dimensions (H x W x D) | Rack details from manufacturer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beko DVN05320W | 13 place settings | 85 x 59.8 x 60 cm | Fixed upper basket, sliding cutlery basket, two mug shelves |
| Samsung DW60M5070FS | 14 place settings | 84.5 x 59.8 x 60 cm | Upper rack adjusts by 5 cm, flexible third rack, fold-down lower tines |
The one-setting increase does not create a larger exterior footprint in this pair. Samsung’s flexible racks may make awkward items easier to place. Beko’s simpler basket arrangement may be enough when your load is mainly plates, glasses and standard cutlery. The Samsung model had no offer to buy on Amazon.ae when we re-checked on August 11, 2026, so this table compares specifications rather than current availability.
What eight place settings tells you
The Midea countertop listing is rated for eight place settings. That confirms a smaller standardized tableware load than the full-size models. It does not prove that the machine covers one to three people for a day. Measure your largest plate and count a normal busy-day load, including pans and serving dishes, before treating it as sufficient.
Countertop also describes placement, not a no-installation promise. The machine still needs the water inlet, drain arrangement, level surface, clearance and electrical supply required by its exact manual. A renter should check the connection method and tenancy rules for the actual kitchen. Do not assume that every countertop dishwasher connects to every tap without an adapter or approval.
How to size capacity in your kitchen
- Photograph or count the dishes from a normal heavy day.
- Record the diameter of the largest plate and the height of tall glasses.
- Include pots, pans, boards and serving bowls that are outside a standard place setting.
- Compare those items with the manufacturer’s rack diagram and adjustment range.
- Confirm the exact water inlet, drain, outlet and clearance requirements before ordering.
For a practical record, list the everyday plates, glasses and cutlery in one column, and a pan or serving dish in another. Measure the awkward items and compare them with the exact rack diagram. Do not count a pan as a fixed number of place settings: its shape and position determine which spaces it occupies.
An eight-place model can work when the physical load fits and you accept the cycle frequency. A 13- or 14-place model provides more rack capacity, but neither guarantees one daily cycle for every family. Frequent cooking with bulky cookware can fill either machine before the tableware count is reached.
Installation is a separate decision
The full-size Beko and Samsung models need a suitable water supply, drain, grounded electrical connection and the clearances stated by their installation instructions. Whether landlord approval is required depends on the tenancy agreement and the work needed. Have the connection assessed when the existing kitchen points are unclear.

Frequently asked questions
What does a dishwasher place setting mean?
It is a standardized tableware load used to state rated capacity. It is useful for comparing machines, but it does not translate directly into a number of people or days because your plates, cookware, meal pattern and loading method can differ from the test load.
Is 8 place settings enough for a family?
The rating alone cannot answer that. Count your typical plates, bowls, glasses, cutlery and cookware, then compare their dimensions with the rack layout. An 8-place countertop machine may suit a smaller daily load, but large plates or pans can reduce usable capacity sharply.
What is the difference between a 13-place and 14-place dishwasher?
The verified Beko DVN05320W is 85 x 59.8 x 60 cm and rated for 13 place settings. The Samsung DW60M5070FS is 84.5 x 59.8 x 60 cm and rated for 14. Their external footprints are almost identical; Samsung's adjustable upper rack, flexible third rack and fold-down lower tines are a more meaningful loading difference than the single extra setting.
Do pots and pans count as place settings?
No. The place-setting test uses standardized tableware, while cookware occupies rack area differently. If you wash pots, pans, boards or large serving dishes, use rack dimensions and layout rather than treating the place-setting number as a household promise.
